Are School Librarians an Endangered Species?

At the beginning of 2012 the American Association of School Librarians asked five librarians the question ‘Are School Librarians an Endangered Species?‘ and recorded their 30 second responses. Click the link to listen to their responses yourself.

Based on the responses of these five teacher librarians, it is clear that teacher librarians are not an endangered species. All respondents identified the key role that teacher librarians play in preparing students for 21st century citizenship through helping students to find, use and evaluate information for learning. These skills are needed for university and in the workplace, and teacher librarians are in the unique position of being experts in this area. Teacher Librarians are not an endangered species, but they need to speak up and make clear the important role they play in student learning and achievement.
